Our Story by Ross

Everybody was at my Granny Mary’s house later except my Mummy, Daddy, Granny and Granda. My Aunties Jane and Fiona packed a big bag that they said was for my Mummy and Daddy to take with them. They took the bag and left Me, Anna, Jonathon, Uncle John and Louise in Granny Mary’s house. The phone kept ringing and it was all my other Aunties and Uncles wanting to know how Cameron was.

Cameron Next day Granny and Granda took me up to Yorkhill to see my Mummy and Daddy. Mummy gave me a big hug and I think she was crying. Daddy gave me big tight cuddle too. Next to the room we were waiting in there were toys to play with. I liked the Bob the Builder and Scooby Doo toys. I asked Mummy where Cameron was and she told me that she didn’t think I could see him just now so I just played with the toys. Granda Tommy and Nanny came to Yorkhill too and all the adults were allowed to see Cameron. We all went to the canteen for our tea and there was a play area in the canteen too, it was fun. Mummy kept crying and I think it was because Cameron was sick.

I stayed at Granny Mary’s that night too and Granny told me that Mummy and Daddy were going away the next day to a place called Birmingham. They told me that Cameron’s heart was sick and there was somebody there who could fix it. They told me that Mummy and Daddy might be away for a long time and I was going to stay with Granda Tommy and Nanny for a while. I like staying with Granda Tommy because he lets me do all sorts of things. We do lots of work in the garden and when it’s not a nice day outside we play with all my toys and stuff.

Next day we went up to Yorkhill again. This time Mummy and Daddy had a flat across the road from the hospital. We went there for us all to have a cup of tea and I had milk. Mummy told me that, because Cameron had to go to Birmingham for an operation, I wouldn’t see them for a while. I said it was OK and that I would be a very good boy for Granda Tommy, Nanny, Granny Mary, Granda Charlie and everybody else who was going to look after me. She told me Cameron was going on a special plane with a doctor and nurse and that her and Daddy would go on another plane later.

We went back over to the hospital and Mummy said they were taking Cameron away now. The men with the green clothes were pushing a big bed along the corridor and Mummy was crying and cuddling me tight. She told me to say bye bye to my wee brother and she held me up to the bed. Cameron was on the bed with lots of tubes and wires and machines. I couldn’t give him a real kiss so I kissed my fingers and put the kiss on his cheek. Everybody else said bye bye to Cameron and they were nearly all crying. Then Mummy and Daddy had to go to get their taxi to the airport. Mummy was crying even more when she said bye bye to me but Daddy took her hand and gave her a big cuddle and they left.

We had to pass the airport on the way back to Granny Mary’s so Granda Charlie took us in so we could wave bye bye to my Mummy and Daddy. Granny Mary phoned my Mummy and told her what window we were at. We could see Mummy and Daddy at the bit of the airport that sticks out. They waved and we waved, but then they had to go on the plane. I was sad then because I wanted to go on the plane with them. Granny told me I could go on a plane with them some other time, and then we went home to Granny Mary’s.
