Our Story by Ross
Every day Joyce would come to Granny Mary’s house to see Mummy and Cameron and sometimes she had a student with her. Joyce was Mummy’s midwife and she had to make sure that Mummy and Cameron were OK. On the Friday Joyce told Mummy that she was not going to be working the weekend but another midwife could come out to see her if she wanted. Mummy said it was OK, she felt fine and Cameron was doing well. Mummy was feeding Cameron with her boobies and he was drinking enough milk.
That Sunday Daddy decided to have a wee party in our house for my birthday. Mummy said it meant that other people could meet Cameron too. We had good fun and lots of my Aunties and Uncles came up to the house. Cameron got very sweaty and grumpy for a while, but when people left and the house cooled down he was OK. We went back up to granny Mary’s that night to stay.
During the night Cameron was really grumpy and sweaty and Mummy was not happy because he did not feed very well. She knew Joyce was coming to see her in the morning so she didn’t worry too much. She thought Cameron was a wee bit snuffly and had lost his appetite.
Joyce came that day on her own. Mummy told her that she thought Cameron had a wee cold and was not feeding well. Joyce checked Mummy because Cameron was asleep and said she was OK. Mummy picked Cameron up and Joyce examined him. She said she would like the doctor to see him because he did not look well to her. She called the doctors and asked if someone could come down and see him soon. While we were waiting for the doctor Joyce got very worried and called an ambulance. Doctor Dooley came in and asked what had happened. Mummy said she thought Cameron had a wee cold, but he had got worse really quickly and Joyce had called an ambulance. Daddy went down to Dr Dooley’s car and got some oxygen while we waited for the ambulance.
Mummy and Daddy went away in the ambulance with Cameron. Dr Dooley had called the local hospital and they said they had a baby doctor there today. I stayed with Granny Mary and Anna for a while. Granda Charlie came home from work and went down to the hospital with Granny Mary. They told me that Cameron was very sick and I had to stay with my Auntie Jane for a while.
